Wash laptop
"About a year ago in September of 2007 I had quite an experience with data loss. I use a laptop computer for nearly everything. My little 3 year old daughter was playing with a spray bottle of water. She suddenly came up with a brilliant idea. She "washed" my laptop, thoroughly spraying the screen and keyboard... until it died. I had EVERYTHING on there... all my website backup files, all my digital family photos, internet bookmarks, documents, etc. I was horrified to think that all was lost.
I managed to take the laptop apart and remove the hard drive. Then I found an external hard drive case online that was compatible with the laptop's hard drive. Thankfully, I was able to recover all my files. I was lucky. Sadly, it's not usually so great when something like that happens. My sister had her laptop crash from a virus, and lost all the baby pictures of her two children, ages 2 and 4. She's still saving it, hoping that someday, something may be recovered. Now I back up my files on a 500gig external hard drive. I also save some important files on CD in a safe place. Hopefully this will help me avoid a similar problem in the future."
