Back-up photos

" I remember it was back in 2000. I just got married and bought my first digital camera . We were enyoing the new possibilities of digital photography , like no waiting time until you see the results, no supplies needed and so on. However, due to limited hdd space we started to store nad back-up our photos on cd. Looking back now, we know this was a real bad idea to rely on cd as back-up.

Basically what we did was burning a cd each time 600 MB of photos were on the hdd. Unfortunatly, we bought a new computer after a few months and did not copy the old photos from the back-up cds to the new hdd. One day in the summer of 2002 we got home from work. We dont know why, but out cat has peed over the rack where the cds were stored. Until then I did not know that cat urine destroys cd. Nearly all of our back up were more or less erased. In the end we managed to recover perhaps half of the photos. Since then we try a new strategy to back up data copying them to two independent computers . Currently we are thinking about an online back up solution .
