Public folder deleted

"Several years ago, at a former place of employment, the IT department set up public folders for each employee on our network. We were encouraged to use these folders exclusively for any documents to which others might need access, this included almost everything we did. If we needed to access a document created by another user we could just look in their public folder and pull it up. Everything was peachy until a new receptionist was hired; she saw all these folders with other people's names on her computer and deleted them all! Unfortunately, she did this late in the day and the system was only backed up at night, so a full day's work was lost by everyone in the company. I myself lost a complex spreadsheet that had taken all day to create. After this occurrence needless to say, the IT department was much more careful in how the network was structured and what permissions were granted."
