Business information on the hard drive dead

"I run a small business on my computer selling vintage collectibles on the Internet. My entire business information was on the hard drive of my computer. I had all my sales transactions, expenses, inventory, and tax information on there. I backed up some of the files but not everything. One day my computer just stopped working.

It would not boot up at all. It turned out that my hard drive had died. The first thing I had to do was figure out who had a pending sale with me. This was very hard to do because I only had some emails and that was all. My computer was somewhat old so I had to get a new computer. I was forced to put my business on hold until it arrived. This took awhile because I had it custom built. I was able to get some data off my hard drive but it cost me a lot of money ($300). It took weeks before my business could start up again because I learned that saving the data file wasn't enough.

I had to have the programs that ran it too. I had to reinstall or buy new programs for a lot of this. I also lost a lot of my music too. With my new computer I bought a second hard drive and have it set up in a raid configuration so that everything (my data, my programs, and & my XP system) is backed up. I also bought an external hard drive to store all my data on so that it would be on a separate system.

I am very careful to back it all now. This year my business will probably be reporting a loss because the two months I lost were the best part of the selling season for me. I run a small business on my computer selling vintage collectibles on the Internet."
